“Just that flat, stale feeling.” Those were the words one of my clients used to describe how he’s feeling right now. You may have experienced this too. Still showing up. Still ticking boxes. Still moving the needle. But the energy that’s usually there is gone. I resonate, because this week I’ve been in that feeling myself. Pretty exhausted, mentally. Even though my calendar has a lot of space right now, I’ve found myself creatively and strategically depleted, with limited inspiration to act on the projects that usually excite me. This is so normal. Life happens in seasons and I’ve just come through a big creative spell. I used to see this as a sign I needed to up my discipline and force myself through it. I still sometimes feel guilty for resting and taking a step back. But whenever I do, I’m reminded of something very powerful, because there are far greater things at play here. We can only receive what we’ve made room to hold. When our fist is closed, clenched, tight, gripping, working, it can only work with the energy it already has inside it. But a closed fist cannot receive. It cannot be handed anything. So when your plate is full and your capacity is gone, when you feel like you can’t give any more, that’s the moment to let go and unclench. Open the fist. Empty the plate. Be open to receiving. We are all energetic vessels and we cannot receive what we are not yet ready to hold. Money, clients, relationships, creative ideas, all of it. For the next season of life to be given to you, you have to let go of what you’re currently clenching. What does this look like in reality? Over the next few days, I am:
What do I find when I do this? I feel more relaxed and at ease. It feels like taking a long deep breath with a slow exhale. In that feeling, new ideas come to me. The things I was worrying about hold less weight. I get a fresher perspective. More clarity and inspiration find their way to me. None of which would have been possible from my usual day to day thinking. In fact, it’s a worthwhile investment of my time. The most productive thing I can do. Also the most joyous. It leads to non-linear results. Many of us are used to being at the forefront in multiple areas of life, business, work, parenting. We are the ones others rely on. But when you are depleted, who do you lean on? There are times in life to push and attack. And there are seasons to be open and be willing to receive. Be it from your mentors and coaches, from loved ones, or, for the more spiritually inclined, from the Creator, the Universe, Life itself. So when it’s right for you, give yourself permission to slow down, open up, and receive. And when you do, every other area of your life will thank you for it. What’s one thing you can do this week to unclench your first? Jaineel p.s. Would you help me review some book covers? If so, you can do so here. p.p.s here’s how I can support you on next steps:
