Why You Keep Slipping Back Into Who You Used to Be
Jaineel Mistry
Have you ever felt this?
You know who you want to be.
You’ve caught glimpses of that version of you – grounded, clear, powerful.
But when the pressure rises, you default back into old patterns.
Habits. Reactions. Identities you thought you’d already outgrown.
You’re not alone.
Here’s the truth most high performers overlook:
Your results aren’t based on your potential.
They’re based on the identity you’re unconsciously embodying.
There are 3 gaps that silently break this alignment.
Let’s walk through them, so you can start being the version of you that you deeply desire to be, consistently.
1.Alignment → Who are you really?
This isn’t about ambition.
It’s about awareness.
Most high performers don’t fail from lack of drive.
They fail from speed.
They move so fast that they forget to check if the one running the show…
is even the real them.
The habitual self rushes.
The higher self remembers.
When you slow down, you stop reacting from conditioning.
You start choosing from truth.
For example…
You wake up and your first instinct is to check emails.
Instead, you sit in stillness.
You ask: What energy does my highest self operate from today?
You feel into it: Calm. Focused. Intentional.
You practice being that version of you – before the world asks anything of you.
Practical Tip:
Each morning, spend 3 minutes in stillness.
Breathe. Then embody the energy of who you choose to be.
Example: Grounded. Clear. Courageous. Decisive.
Let that energy shape how you lead yourself – and others.
A slower mind is a higher mind (in terms of conciousness)When you operate from stillness, you rise above survival.
2.Power → Who are you choosing to be?
Knowing who you are means nothing…unless you choose to act from it when it counts.
But the mind hates uncertainty.
So it grabs onto old patterns, old stories, old identities.
Not because they’re true – because they’re familiar.
The habitual self whispers: “Play it safe.”
The higher self asks: “What’s possible?”
For example…
You’re in a leadership meeting. A decision is on the table that compromises your long-term vision.
Old you avoids the tension and agrees to keep the peace.
Aligned you calmly speaks up and protects what matters most – even if it makes others uncomfortable.
Practical Tip:
When you catch yourself slipping into the old version of you, say:
“That’s who I was. This is who I choose to be.”
Say it out loud. Let your nervous system catch up with your truth.
Your mind may be loyal to the past—but your soul is loyal to who you’re being called to become.
3.Performance → What are you doing consistently?
This is where the embodiment happens.
You don’t become the higher self through ideas.
You become him through aligned action.
The moment you align your actions with your identity, you start wiring a new future.
For example…
It’s 6:45 a.m.
You said you’d train today – but you’re tired.
Old you hits snooze and rationalises it.
Higher you gets up, drinks water, and moves for 20 minutes.
Because you’re no longer negotiating with the old version of you.
You’re proving who you are through how you show up.
Practical Tip:
Before you choose to snooze, scroll, or skip – pause and ask:
“What would my highest self do right now?”
Then do it. Let the action anchor the identity.
The moment you act from your highest self, you collapse the gap between who you are and who you’re becoming.
Final Thought:
You don’t need more motivation.
You need more alignment in action.
Because when you’re aligned:
→ Power isn’t something you force. It flows.
→ Performance doesn’t burn you out. It fulfills you.
→ You don’t hustle to become someone.
You let go of what no longer fits – and your highest self rises in the space you create.
That’s when life begins to feel alive again.
Reflection Question:
Where are you still operating from the past?
And what would your higher self choose right now?
That choice is your next level.
