Stop Making Things Wrong
Jaineel Mistry
Where has your mind been for the past hour?
Reflect on that, genuinely.
Has it been focused on how things aren’t quite right?
What needs fixing?
How this person or situation needs to be different?
What still hasn’t happened in your business, your career, your relationships?
Or has it been resting in the perfection of what already is?
Most of us are unconsciously addicted to “making things wrong.”
It’s how our analytical mind finds control in a chaotic world.
Fix. Improve. Solve.
And there’s nothing wrong with that. I’m not making that wrong. I’m sharing an observation.
There’s something deeper at play here.
The hidden cost of seeing a moment as wrong
When you see the moment as wrong, your state shifts:
You enter resistance.
You feel lack.
You live in a mental loop of something is “missing.”
And you don’t even realise you’re doing it.
Yet it makes you and your life seem incomplete, you feel disconnected and experience friction. Life becomes hard. And you are the one creating it. Well, not the real you, but your small little mind.
A moment with my daughter
On Thursday night, I was putting my daughter to sleep.
It was past her bedtime of 8pm. The room was hot and I was getting restless.
She was still full of energy, cheeky and playful.
I had planned to be downstairs by 8pm.
I found myself resisting the moment.
Tensing up. Internally trying to make it all go faster. My small mind wanted to complete the task of putting her to sleep and move on to the next thing.
And then I caught myself.
I paused and asked a question I often meditate on:
“What is here when there is nothing wrong?”
In that instant, I let go of the story.
I dropped the idea that anything needed to be different in this moment.
And what emerged was magic.
I saw her cheekiness as beauty.
I felt her little arm wrap around me.
I ravelled in the love of the moment and experienced pure joy.
A thought popped into my mind:
“My 97-year-old self would do anything to be here right now.”
My heart swelled.
I felt joy and gratitude.
I was back in the present moment with complete acceptance.
As I stayed in this energy, I gently tapped her to sleep.
And 10 minutes later – she was asleep.
Not because I forced it.
But because I let go of a story of “something is wrong”.
“We cannot solve our problems with the same level of thinking that created them” Einstein wrote.
As we shift our state, we’re able to receive solutions. Maybe we see that there are no real “problems”.
Practicing “thank you” in the middle of the mess
A few days ago, I saw a clip of Mooji where he says,
“Whatever is happening, just say thank you.”
Even in difficulty – especially in difficulty.
So I tried it this week.
At first my mind resisted. “Thank you? For what?”
But slowly, my mind started to look for the gifts in it all.
Thank you… for the learning.
Thank you… for the mirror and showing me where I can create a better experience of life and be a better husband.
Thank you… for showing me where I wasn’t aligned.
And suddenly, life started to feel lighter again. Everything was a learning, a blessing, and an opening to connect with this moment to feel Radically Alive.
From a neuroscience perspective, when we shift into gratitude or acceptance, we move from the sympathetic (fight-or-flight) to the parasympathetic (rest-and-restore) nervous system.
We gain access to more creativity, clarity, and connection.
Our energy shifts and the external world begins to reflect that.
So I ask you today:
What is here when here is nothing wrong?
Try it.
In the next moment that feels off, tight, or stuck…
Pause. Ask the question. See what enters.
Not to bypass pain.
But to see your world differently. To loosen and open up to gifts that life is presenting to you in every moment.
There’s a version of you – right here, right now- who is already free. It only takes one shift to experience this freedom.
