I Went on a Spiritual Retreat. Here’s What I Was Reminded of…
Jaineel Mistry
Hey [FIRST NAME GOES HERE]
Last Sunday, I stepped away from everything familiar: my routine, work, family, and even my phone and went on a spiritual retreat.
I didn’t go because something was wrong.
I went because I’m always open to seeing where I’m being held back.
As we end 2025, I’m curious where my blind spots are and what internal systems are running my life that I’m completely unaware of.
Many times we avoid this type of work because things are ‘good enough’ or we don’t see the immediate need for it until something gets painful and problematic.
Even for this retreat, I was 50/50 whether I should go or not. Giving up the one day where I’m not working and completely present all day with my wife and daughter.
And wow, I’m so glad I went – not just for me – but also for them.
In the short term, it meant some time away, but in the long term it quite possibly shifted the trajectory of our life.
That’s what usually happens when I attend events, workshops, or anything along this line of inner work.
It all compounds and changes our lives over time.
What happened, you may ask:
It felt like putting down a weight I didn’t even know I was carrying.
And I saw the horizon of what’s coming and where I need to lean in.
As I reflect on my experience this week, I look back over the last 7 years of being in this field and doing this work.
On the outside, I may look the same, maybe with less hair now.
But who I am on the inside has changed. The way I experience life has shifted. I am so much closer to my true self. And the tangible results on the outside continue to show.
The practicalities of this work is that it affects everything.
Our relationships with:
Because when we do the inner work, we are working on how we are creating our world and who we are being in it.
The more I do this work on myself, the more I can lead and guide others on this journey of inner mastery. And it gives me greater conviction of the power of this work.
As executives, entrepreneurs, and leaders at home and in work working world, I see this is our duty. Yes, for those we lead, but also ourselves. Because we are the only ones who are holding ourselves back.
Here’s the truth:
You are the king of your kingdom. You are the queen of your castle.
The kingdom, the castle, and your entire reality is created in your own inner world.
When you master that, you master your life.
Whatever challenges you’re facing right now. Wherever you feel a little stuck or unsure. Wherever you feel lost or overwhelmed.
The answer isn’t out there. It’s in there.
And by the way, it’s a constant journey. And one that can be a joyful and fun experience.
You don’t need a retreat to start this work. You just need to start asking different questions.
Ask yourself, “What do I need to let go of that’s no longer serving me right now?” Then listen. Don’t analyse. Just listen to what comes up.
The next time you feel resistance to something (a conversation, a decision, a commitment), pause and ask, “What am I protecting myself from?” That moment of honest inquiry is where the work begins.
One way you can deepen this journey is to click on the link below and join my ‘7 Day Journal with Jaineel Experience.‘ It’s free, and it’s designed to help you ask the questions that unlock what you’ve been carrying.
As we end the year and enter into 2026, I’ll be hosting more spaces online and offline that will give you more opportunities to explore this too – watch this space!
Much love,
Jaineel
