Higher vs Faster
Embracing Inner Growth Over Speed
Jaineel Mistry
You’ve probably had days (maybe weeks) where you’re running around, thinking that if you just move faster, do more, check off every item on your to-do list, then somehow you’ll reach…what, exactly? Success? Fulfilment? Peace?
But here’s a truth I’ve had to confront myself: that frantic, fast-paced rushing? It’s mostly just noise. At the end of it, I’m left feeling exhausted and empty rather than accomplished and content.
So today, I want to invite you to go Higher vs. Faster.
The Problem
Our culture LOVES speed. Everything is “instant.” Instant messaging, instant noodles, instant gratification. Somewhere along the way, we started equating speed with progress. We think the faster we move, the more successful we’ll be. Maybe speed matters when you’re launching a new product, but you personally are not a product to be launched.
When we’re moving so fast, we often miss what’s really going on underneath. That frantic pace? It’s often just a distraction—a way to avoid what’s actually being asked of us.
Think about it. When was the last time you slowed down enough to truly listen to yourself? To check in and ask, “Am I doing this because it’s meaningful, or because I just feel like I have to keep up with everyone else?”
We live in a society that equates speed with efficiency, busyness with productivity, and constant action with purpose. Many high achievers, perhaps even you, fall into the trap of believing that moving faster is the way to achieve more. But often, this frantic pace is a form of self-sabotage.
The constant rushing around doesn’t serve the deeper parts of who you are. Instead, it keeps you in a state of low energy, producing low-quality outcomes.
Go Higher vs. Faster
Professor David Hawkins, in Power vs. Force, highlights the difference between high-energy states and low-energy states. Low-energy states—such as anxiety, rushing, and forcing things to happen—drain us and produce fleeting results. High-energy states, like peace, love, and inner clarity, operate on a frequency that magnetises results and creates lasting impact.
If you continue to rely on the frantic energy of “faster,” you risk staying in a cycle of superficial achievements, reaching outcomes that may look impressive on the surface but lack real meaning.
It’s not about how much or how fast you’re doing things; it’s about the energy behind your actions. When you act from a place of calm, clarity, and inner alignment, you’re not just doing more—you’re going further with your actions. There’s greater leverage.
Hawkins’ work shows that when we operate from higher states of consciousness, we naturally attract more positive outcomes. The energy behind our actions becomes magnetic. This isn’t “woo-woo” thinking; it’s rooted in Hawkins’ studies on human consciousness and the measurable energy levels of different emotional states. Higher energy states don’t just feel better—they actually produce better results. Your life experience will also teach you this.
Imagine what could change in your life if you shifted from frantic speed to purposeful stillness. Instead of operating on “faster,” you operate on “higher”—moving with intention, clarity, and presence. You’d experience less burnout, more fulfilment, and results that align deeply with who you truly are.
High quality. Less quantity.
When you’re connected to a higher purpose and allow yourself to operate from that calm energy, you don’t need to push or force. You’re aligned with a powerful force that naturally guides your actions and produces the results you truly care about.
I have to continually remind myself:
I’ve never come across an enlightened person who’s rushing through life—have you?
Deep vs. Shallow Work
MIT Professor Cal Newport, in his book Deep Work, introduces a powerful concept that’s relevant here. He differentiates between “deep work” and “shallow work.” Deep work is the kind of focused, uninterrupted effort that allows you to create meaningful and high-quality results. It’s where true mastery and progress happen.
Shallow work, on the other hand, is fragmented, often reactive, and usually doesn’t lead to significant breakthroughs. Newport explains that most people are stuck in shallow work due to distractions and a constant need to respond to every notification and demand. While shallow work keeps you busy, it rarely propels you forward in a meaningful way. Newport writes, “Deep work is necessary to wring every last drop of value out of your current intellectual capacity.”
When you operate from a higher energy state, you naturally gravitate towards deep work, aligning your actions with purpose and allowing for meaningful, impactful progress.
In a world where most people are going fast and shallow, your power lies in going slower and deeper.
Practical Steps to Go Higher vs. Faster
Here are some practical ways to begin tapping into your higher energy:
Final Reflection
Your power doesn’t lie in doing more or moving faster; it lies in operating from a higher energy state. By embracing the stillness within, you allow your intuition to guide you, your energy to radiate, and your actions to align with your true self.
