Don’t Find Yourself
Create Yourself
Jaineel Mistry
“Life is not about finding yourself, it’s about creating yourself.” – George Bernard Shaw.
Today, I’m going to share how you can consciously create the life you desire by understanding and shaping your inner narrative.
The thoughts you feed about yourself shape your world. By taking control of these narratives, you can create a life of your dreams.
The problem is that most of us are unconsciously and innocently crafting a narrative that doesn’t serve what we want to create.
We allow our past and external opinions to dictate our self-identity, trapping us in a cycle of limitation and unfulfilled potential.
Mastering the art of self-creation is not just beneficial; it’s essential for leading a life of fulfilment and high performance.
Your world is not as it is, it is as you are. Your world is created within your own mind. Therefore, if you consciously create yourself (vs. passively succumbing to past stories you or others may have told you that you are), your whole world will mirror the version you create.
I was having a conversation with a client yesterday who said, “I’m not consistent, I struggle to be consistent.” He was creating himself in ways that didn’t serve him and who he wanted to be.
I know he’s not alone. How many of us are innocently creating ourselves in ways that do not serve us?
I certainly have caught myself there at times when my mind (not the wisdom within my body) played a narrative of “I am tired” or “I am stuck or overwhelmed.” A really big one I used to catch myself with was “I don’t know how.” This innocent creation shaped my whole world as I thought, spoke, and acted it out in physical reality. It’s a dream killer. It kept me stuck in not knowing how and taking no action to find out how. Until I fed another thought…
An athlete of the mind has no space for such creations that do not serve our deepest desires, dreams, and who we really want to become.
Back to my client, he didn’t even notice what he said until I slowed him down to it. Imagine what else he’s saying about himself? As I pointed him in this direction, he then started judging himself for creating it. This is another place people get stuck. We worked on letting go of judgment for him saying that; it wasn’t coming from a conscious part of him. He is not that voice that says “I am not consistent.” But who he is—infinite energy—will mould into who he thinks he is. So it’s important we work on this.
We joked that he was consistently creating himself as inconsistent. So he IS consistent!
As you slow your mind, it’s important to develop a level of awareness of the voice within your head. What is it saying about you? It’s important to remember:
Personally, as I become more aware and practise this in my own life, I have stopped questioning my worthiness and whether I deserve things. I have become more confident in myself as I let go of giving doubtful thoughts attention and just going for what I want.
It’s all a big game. And, if we have the audacity, we can create our own rules around who we are, the life we live, and the game we play. The world will respond to who you deeply believe you are. For things to transform, you must transform the way you are creating yourself.
The Two Wolves
There is a story of a wise man who told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, “My son, the battle is between two wolves inside us all. One is Evil (representing anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego). The other is Good (representing joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith).”
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf wins?”
The wise man simply replied, “The one you feed.”
The same goes for the thoughts about ourselves.
Which thoughts about yourself are you choosing to feed, entertain, and nurture in your mind?
