3 Lessons From Carlos Alcaraz’s Winning Mindset
Jaineel Mistry
It’s a hot Friday afternoon at Wimbledon.
Carlos Alcaraz has just won his semi-final match and through to his third consecutive Wimbledon final. He’s on a 24-match win streak — a run of dominance only the greatest in history have achieved.
Moments after sealing victory, he stands on court, sweat still fresh on his face, giving this interview.
What he shares is profound.
It’s a short conversation (full video here), but if you listen closely, it’s a masterclass on living, leading, and performing from joy — not pressure.
Let’s decode three core lessons from his on-court speech, so you can reflect on where they land in your own life.
1. Detach from the scoreboard, stay in your dream
The interviewer’s question:
“You mentioned the word happy. We know that you are always needing to be happy on the court. You’re now on a 24-match win streak. How are you continuing to find the joy in your tennis?”
Alcaraz’s words:
“Well, it’s just not thinking about those things, you know.I think that’s the first thing. Not thinking about the winning streak, not thinking about the results at all. It’s just, I mean, thinking about this is my dream, you know.My dream is just stepping on these kinds of courts, these beautiful courts, just playing tennis in the most beautiful tournaments in the world. And that’s all I try to think, you know, in every tournament.”
Let’s decode this:
Most of us are obsessed with the scoreboard. With metrics, outcomes, wins, losses. Alcaraz, despite being on a historic streak, says he’s not even thinking about it!
His focus?
“This is my dream.”He’s not chasing it anymore. He’s inside it.
Abraham Hicks said it well:
“Don’t keep score. The Universe keeps perfect score.”
There may have been a time in your life where you needed to obsess over results — that’s how you built our craft.
But ironically, what gets in the way now isn’t lack of skill. It’s your own mind.
Whatever game you’re playing — in life, in business — you’ve done the training. You’ve obsessed over results in the past. Your need to prove your worth through results is not a sustainable approach to inner peace and true performance. This kind of energy keeps you stuck in chasing success.
Whenever you chase success, you reinforce an energy of not already being successful.
Now, what keeps you in the game is allowing. Allowing yourself to flow.
Allowing yourself to actually enjoy the dream you once dreamt of. Allowing the life force within you to flow through you and not getting caught up in the logical over analysis and overthinking.
Ironically, when you stop overanalysing and become present, life flows — you are grateful for living in what was once your dream and your high performance is a by product of your aligned state.

2. Celebrate the win before rushing to the next mountain
The interviewer’s question:
“You’re into your third consecutive final. You’re going to go for a hat-trick on Sunday, which has only been done by four players before. Is your tennis where you want it to be going into Sunday’s final?”
Alcaraz’s words:
“Well, just right now, I don’t want to think about Sunday.I just want, to be honest, I just want to enjoy this moment.Enjoy that I qualified to another final, the third in a row, at Wimbledon. It is something that is really, really difficult.I have to sometimes take my time, think about it, enjoy it with my team, with my close people.I’ll have time to play and to think on Sunday.”
Let’s decode this:
How often do we climb one mountain, barely plant the flag, and already start fixating on the next peak?
What we’ve worked so hard for — we don’t even take time to enjoy and cherish.
Alcaraz knows he’ll have time to prepare for Sunday. But for now, he’s celebrating his success with his team. He’s being present to what he’s just accomplished.
Not only is this good for his mind and soul — but when the mind and soul are nourished, it’s the best fuel for high performance.
Celebrating wins, no matter how big or small, is proven by science (and your own life experience) to actually fuel more wins.
It reminds me of when my dog was a puppy, and how we used to train her every time she pooped outside, we gave her a treat. Celebrating wins trains our mind to create more of that behaviour.
Right now, it’s about soaking in the moment, appreciating the work, the beauty, the miracle of being here. When we vibrate at the energy of appreciation, joy, love, bliss — we attract more of it.
Time to introspect:
Let your mind digest the win. That’s how you build sustainable drive.
And as you cherish being in this state, new insights will come.
You’ll be inspired, called to a higher path — from within, not by rushing to the next thing.
3. Joy isn’t just a byproduct – it’s the actual method
Earlier in the conversation, the interviewer asked:
“You’re always needing to be happy on the court. How are you continuing to find the joy in your tennis?”
Alcaraz’s words:
“It’s just not thinking about those things… not thinking about the results. It’s thinking that this is my dream. And that’s why I try to bring all the joy to the court.”
Let’s decode this:
The world teaches us: joy is the reward after we succeed.
But anyone who’s ever touched true genius — whether on a court, in a boardroom, or building a business — knows the opposite is true.
Joy is the fuel that unlocks peak performance.
Joseph Campbell put it simply:
“Follow your bliss.”
Not because it’s fluffy. Because it’s practical.
When you’re joyful, the mind quiets, the body flows, creativity comes alive.
Many of us carry the belief (I know I’ve certainly battled this) that we need to struggle to be successful.
So we keep finding ways to struggle, thinking this is what will lead to “more success” — when it only sucks the joy out.
JOY is the path.
