5 Learnings From Embarking on a New Chapter
Jaineel Mistry
On Friday afternoon, as I headed back to my car after having lunch with my wife and daughter, I checked my WhatsApp.
Out popped a message from a former client of mine (now a friend) that stopped me in my tracks.
As I drove home, his words made me reflect on my own journey of transformation. The process in which we rise to our true calling, overcome our mental constraints, and step into bold leadership and self-expression.
Here’s the truth most people don’t want to hear: You can have all the external success in the world (the business, the revenue, the recognition) and still feel completely lost inside. Empty. Like you’re living someone else’s life.
Sound familiar? You’re not alone.
I share 5 learnings below that will help you break free from this invisible prison and step into the leader you’re meant to be.
Learning 1: Your Lowest Point Is Your Greatest Gift
To receive that message yesterday, I had to think back to where this all started.
It began at the lowest point in my life. I was 26, working in corporate, feeling like I’d “made it” in my mind, yet inside I felt completely lost and empty.
I’d come home and cry in my bedroom for no reason. I didn’t know what was happening, but something wasn’t right.
That low point (which I’m now so grateful for) created a contrasting experience that evoked a desire within me to seek answers. To find clarity. That’s what prompted me to read books and become obsessed with personal growth.
Here’s what I learned: We all face challenges and obstacles. It’s easy to be a victim to them in the moment. That victim energy may provide temporary comfort as you blame others, but freedom is never found there.
How long do you want to stay stuck playing victim in your life?
Your power is found in taking ownership.
As the Stoics said, and as Ryan Holiday wrote, the obstacle is the way. The challenges, the problems, the setbacks are required for growth. That chaos leads to freedom.
Practical Reflection:
Think of your current biggest challenge. Instead of asking “Why is this happening to me?” ask “What is this trying to teach me?” Write down three potential lessons this obstacle could be offering you.
Learning 2: Your Soul Knows the Way, If You Listen
As I began my journey of personal growth and inner work, I became obsessed. It fed me so much energy.
I reflected on this question: If I had a year to live and £100 million in the bank, what would I do? Who would I be?
As I meditated, an answer dropped in: share what you’re learning.
So I did. In 2017, I started sharing my writing on social media. It fed me incredible energy.
Of course, people resisted it. They asked, “What the hell has happened to Jaineel?” Some rejected my work. Others completely loved it.
Sharing myself online required courage.
What would people think?
What if they don’t resonate?
What will my colleagues think?
But my soul was so aligned that I continued to follow it.
Purpose in life isn’t some grand divine download. It’s the small nudges we get called to. The things that feed us energy. The more we have the courage to allow it to flow through us and act on it, the more things open up.
What’s the cost of not following it?
Continue to resent life.
Continue to be stuck in your mind.
Continue to block what the Universe wants to give you.
Practical Reflection:
What small action have you been putting off that keeps calling to you? What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail? Write it down and commit to taking one small step this week.
Learning 3: You Never Know Who’s Watching
This client, like many of my clients, came to me after reading my content for over a year.
He followed me on Facebook silently. Never liked or commented on my posts. I never knew who he was.
But one day he reached out. We had conversations. He was doubtful about investing in coaching. But over time, he decided to trust the process.
Here’s the thing: You may be called to write, create content, or do something completely different. Whatever it is, you have no idea who it may impact or where it will lead you.
The game is whether you’ll follow that calling regardless of the uncertainty. It’s never about “what will this give me?” It’s about “what can I give to the world?”
The whole point is to feel alive.
What are you being called to that you keep putting off?
Practical Reflection:
Identify one way you could start sharing your authentic voice or expertise this month. It doesn’t have to be perfect – it just has to be real. What’s one platform or method you could use to begin?
Learning 4: Real Transformation Takes Time (and that’s your advantage)
We live in a world of short-term vision and quick dopamine hits.
This client (a man in his 30s with 2 kids who’d built a multimillion-pound business) was lost, confused, empty, and misaligned. He was being called to another vision but felt mentally trapped and physically out of shape. He wasn’t being the leader he wanted to be for his family.
It took a month to start working together. We then worked 1:1 for 3 months. After that, he joined my 12 month men’s mastermind, Project Hero. We worked together for around 1.5 years.
He mentioned in his message, 5 to 6 years of transformation as he continued to stay connected to me and my work.
Everyone wants quick fixes, but real transformation takes time. The work never ends. In the grand scheme of an 80-year life, 5 years is a small percentage.
Most people avoid doing the real work, wanting superficial change over 30 days only to revert to old mental habits.
Where are you seeking short-term fixes for things that are truly important in your life?
Practical Reflection:
Write down one area of your life where you’ve been seeking quick fixes. Now imagine where you could be in 5 years if you committed to doing the deep work consistently. What would that transformation be worth to you?
Learning 5: Leadership Means Facing Resistance
When I first started coaching, my knowledge and understanding were high. The concepts were all there. But embodying the work took time. It’s still a work in progress.
To reach the point of coaching someone of this caliber (and continuing to impact lives over 5 years) has only been possible because I stayed in the game.
Without the massive social media following.
Without the flashy book deals.
Without the big podcast appearances.
There are times I feel like I’m behind or should be doing better. But in these moments, I’m reminded of how far I’ve come.
A lot of growth is invisible. It’s building foundations. Some of my core values are integrity and quality.
Sometimes they “hold me back” in the short term, but over the long term, they allow me to win the game I’m playing.
Excellence isn’t pursued in short bursts of intensity. It’s what you do day in, day out. Consistency compounds over time.
We will face external and internal resistance when we challenge the status quo and become someone different from most people.
Authenticity is our greatest power. But to reach this stage of self-expression and leadership, you must do the work on self-discovery and overcoming the mind.
When you know your true calling and overcome the little voice wanting to keep you small, you enter the realm of true self-leadership.
Think of a grapevine. When a grape begins to ripen, it releases an enzyme that signals to all the other grapes that it’s time to ripen. Just like this, one person changing creates a way of being that impacts others. We’re all connected. You changing your life will no doubt begin to have ripples across your family, friends, and colleagues.
Your way of being creates positive ripples across people. When you give yourself permission to be yourself, you inspire others to do the same.
Practical Reflection:
Where are you waiting for permission to be and express your truth? What would become possible for others around you as you step into more of who you truly are? You could write a letter to yourself from the perspective of who you’ll be 5 years from now.
The Transformation Awaits
These 5 learnings represent more than personal insights. They’re the foundation of true leadership and lasting transformation.
But here’s what I know: Reading about transformation and actually experiencing it are two completely different things.
If you’re a high-achiever who’s tired of feeling empty despite external success… if you’re ready to stop seeking quick fixes and commit to the deep work… if you’re called to step into authentic leadership but don’t know where to start…
The path forward requires guidance, accountability, and a proven framework.
I’m currently accepting applications for 1:1 coaching and my mens Project Hero mastermind. These aren’t programs for everyone. They’re for visionaries who understand that real transformation takes time and are willing to do the inner work.
