Thriving Scholar — Executive Coaching & Leadership
3 Personal Shifts I’m Making in 2026
Jaineel Mistry
As I reflected over the holiday period, some uncomfortable truths surfaced and with them, changes I’ve been inspired to make.
These three things may not be new to me or you. But with this work of Leading From Within, it’s a journey of continual deepening.
The whole premise comes from one core realisation: the version of me that got me here (the one who survived rough schools, excelled academically, thrived in consulting and coaching) is not the version that will take me where I’m meant to go.
So here are three shifts I’m making in 2026.
1. Letting Go of the Survival Self and Stepping Into the Authentic Self
Survival has been at the heart of my way of being since a young age. Self-protection and preservation had been running my nervous system since I was at school.
It kept me sharp, strategic, capable. It helped me rise in corporate consulting and build Thriving Scholar. From the outside, it looked like success.
But here’s what the survival self actually means: operating from fear-based decision-making. Always calculating risk. Always protecting. Always proving I deserve to be in the room. Success built on “not failing” rather than true freedom and alignment.
The cost is huge. I can build an impressive life from survival mode, but it will never feel like freedom, power, and impact.
Even after stepping into my purpose, I found myself quietly performing, trying to justify my path, validate my impact. The people I was trying to impress were actually seeking the part of me I was hiding.
So as I step into 2026, there’s a shift into more authenticity.
What this looks like practically:
It’s about raising my honesty and personal integrity.
2. From Hardness to Heart
My survival self created a strong invisible guard.
From a young age, I’ve had to be the leader in my life and for others around me. That made me strong and successful. But it made me develop a guard (always sharp, always tough, always in control).
This protected me and helped me navigate tough environments. But as I step into the next phase of my life, I feel that it’s going to hold me back.
I’ve been neglecting myself in the name of taking care of everyone else. So busy being strong that I forgot how to be gentle. So focused on “leading” that I stopped letting myself feel what’s real and present for me.
I rarely use the term “self-love” in my content, but this is what true self-leadership stems from. You can’t be a person of deep presence, high consciousness, and powerful energy without it.
So the shift in me is this: more self-love.
When I love and take care of myself first, everything else gets taken care of. When I’m aligned, others rise with me.
What this looks like:
Leadership without heart is hollow.
3. Managing My Energy vs Time
In 2025, I was relentless in managing my time. Family. Full-time job. Coaching business, creating content, book writing etc. I felt like I had to have every hour optimised.
And it worked. I got things done.
But here’s the trap: I got so good at managing time that I stopped paying attention to my energy.
As I reflected over the holiday period, I heard the wise words: “Don’t move for the sake of moving. There is no rush. Time dissolves when you’re in alignment.”
If I continue this way (cramming more in, optimising every hour) I’ll achieve things. But I’ll lose myself in the process.
Less projects. Less focus on time and more focus on energy. Non-linear quantum results and joy are created from level of energy behind the action, not just action for the sake of it.
What this looks like:
I don’t need to force or chase. People will come. Money will come. Support will come, all when I’m in the right energetic state and level of consciousness – my life experience continues to teach me this.
What I’m Learning
I’m not sharing this because I’ve arrived.
I’m sharing this so you see I’m still on the journey of Leading From Within. It’s a journey I’ll be on for the rest of my life.
Maybe you’re feeling something similar. Maybe the version of you that got you here isn’t the version that will take you where you’re meant to go.
If that’s true, what are you ready to let go of? Or what changes will you be making so you can truly Lead From Within in 2026? Feel free to reply back to me to this email if you’re inspired to do so – it will become a reality the more you share with others.
